On December 9th, 2019, the Public Service Commission will host a public night hearing in Docket No. 2019-64-WS pertaining to CUC, Incorporated’s request for rate changes. The hearing will take place at the Callawassie Island Club (22 Callawassie Club Drive, Okatie, South Carolina 29909) and will begin at 6 p.m. The PSC encourages anyone interested in participating to show up early to sign in and ensure that your voice is heard.
The process for night hearings is simple: the PSC wants to hear your feedback on ongoing cases, particularly ones that affect the rates SC utility consumers pay, and so they open the floor to the public during these meetings. Prior to the meeting, you’ll be able to sign up in the order of appearance, and your name will then be called when it’s your time to speak. Each speaker is limited to three minutes, so it may be worth thinking over what you’re going to say and timing yourself at home. When your name is called, you’ll approach the lectern and be sworn in by a representative of the PSC; as this is a hearing with the Commission, your testimony will be entered into the record. You’ll then be directed to begin, and you can take up to three minutes to share your feedback with the Commissioners. Do note that Commissioners can’t answer questions, as they are bound by the Code of Judicial Conduct and cannot speak on ongoing dockets. After you speak, you’ll leave the floor, and the next name will be called. Looking for a quick guide?
