It’s officially autumn and we’re preparing for cooler weather, football games, and seasonal activities! Of course, one of the first things you should think about as the weather cools is how you can make smart choices to reduce your utility bills and save money while maintaining comfort. Here are a couple of quick tips to make sure you enjoy your fall while conserving money and energy.
- Per the US Department of Energy, setting your thermostat 7-10 cooler than you normally would can save you up to 10% off your annual bill. Consider setting your heat to 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and setting it higher (72-74 degrees) at night.
- South Carolina is a ceiling fan state, and there’s a simple tip involving yours that will keep your home cozy: since warm air rises, you can reverse the direction of your fan’s rotation to push the warmer air down from the ceiling back into the living space of your home. Most fans have a switch on the base of the fan to make this change.
- Finally, South Carolina has an abundance of the best energy source of all: the sun. Keep your curtains open during the day to maximize the sunlight your home receives and let the sun do the heavy lifting for you!
